Bush shows up at #2 if you Google for ‘failure’. Should we be surprised? Technorati has some serious Google Voodoo to top him.failure.pngI’m not sure whether to be sad or to laugh….

In a recent post to the Dilbert Blog, Scott Adams brings up a little bit of hope for those of us depressed by the current administration.

My favorite conspiracy theory is the one that says the world is being run by a handful of ultra-rich capitalists, and that our elected governments are mere puppets. I sure hope it’s true. Otherwise my survival depends on hordes of clueless goobers electing competent leaders. That’s about as likely as a dog pissing the Mona Lisa into a snow bank.

The only way I can get to sleep at night is by imagining a secret cabal of highly competent puppetmasters who are handling the important decisions while our elected politicians debate flag burning and the definition of marriage.

It’s the only explanation for how the governments of the world could be staffed with morons and yet everything still runs okay, sort of. Granted, things aren’t perfect, but when you hear our leaders talk, you have to wonder why our energy policy doesn’t involve burning asbestos on playgrounds. There must be some competent people pulling the strings behind the curtain, adjusting the money supply, twiddling with interest rates, choosing the winners for American Idol, and that sort of thing.

Long live the secret cabal! It’s gotta be better than what we are told is really going on in gubmint!

This is a very cool project by the Washington Post and the guy who created chicagocrime.org, Adrian Holovaty. Basically, the entire congressional voting record since 1991 is used to track the voting habits of congress, and has it broken down by various demographics such as sex, region, etc. You can even track votes by astrological sign, which is the only real way to understand congress.

Any of the senators or house members can be subscribed to via RSS. For example, you can subscribe to Tom Lantos and see every time he votes right in your RSS reader.

Check it out, and track down your own congresspeople: http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/

Wow - this is an amazing speech. If only we had a president who took the reigns and actually did something.

If We Had A Real President
by Stirling Newberry

This is the speech he would give.

My fellow Americans, it has never been my policy to lie to you, neither to exagerate the dangers we face, nor to minimize the challenges that lay before us. Two days ago, with almost biblical force, the Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast, including Mississippi and Lousiana. The damage was no less than what a war would have caused - a millon are left homeless, and millions without power and the other sinews of modern life.

As importantly the oil wells and refineries are out of commission. The port of New Orleans, vital for bringing goods in and out of the United States, is out of commission. This is a disaster which has hit in one place, but which reaches out to the rest of the nation, and indeed the world.

In the wake of September 11th, Americans pulled together to face the crisis, and willingly set their personal interests aside to meet the dangers we faced then. I am going to ask them to do the same now, so that a temporary disruption does not grow out of proportion. I ask all Americans to act out of restraint and be mindful of what they use, so that there will be enough to support the vital reconstruction effort that we are about to embark upon.

Therefore, I am taking the following steps immediately, and will follow with others shortly.

With 4 more years of Bush coming you need some prozac. Get it here.

Trust me, it’ll make you feel better.

Really damn cool. This lady is 94, but sounds more like she’s 24 energy-wise. She’s running for Senate and is guest-blogging on Lessig’s Blog:

From Granny D: “

I want to thank Lawrence for letting me participate here. Yes, I’m running for US Senate (http://GrannyD.com) at the age of 94 against a Bush Yes Man and debate coach, Sen. Judd Gregg. I will debate Gregg next week and am nervous about it, though I certainly have the facts on my side, while his major accomplishments are the Iraq War, the deficit, the fact that the largest employer in New Hampshire was Digital Equipment when he began his term (it is now Wal-Mart), and the fact that you could eat the fish in our streams when he began his term, and they now have enough mercury to tell their own temperature! I’m coming from behind, to put it mildly, but some last-minute TV, a little advice from Joe Trippi, and I think I we can make it interesting.

Go Granny D!

Heh….
Bush Unmasked

From Morons.org:

I’m all for free speech, but perhaps the Glassport Assembly of
God should have warned the people that came to see their Easter
performance that their show wasn’t appropriate for small
children. After all, if I had kids, I don’t think I would
want them to see the Easter Bunny getting whipped and a vivid depiction of the crucifixion of Christ. [morons.org headlines]

Crazy….
